Unique Auction Methodology

NEW ONLINE COMMUNITY COURTS SERIOUS COLLECTORS
OF ANTIQUES, FINE ARTS AND ENDURING COLLECTIBLES

SAN FRANCISCO -- Serving passionate collectors, not kitsch-hoarding night owls, The Serious Collector (seriouscollector.com) is inaugurating an auction method identical to old-line auction houses. The new web site combines auctions with fixed-price sales, discussion groups and a wealth of resources for collectors of antiques, fine arts and enduring collectibles.

The new service offers dealers and collectors an exceptional mix of buying, selling, trading, learning and communications opportunities. For dealers, The Serious Collector’s range of services will help anyone, regardless of their experience with computers, open their shops to buyers throughout the world on the Internet.

"We're serving serious collectors and dealers left out of the garage-sale auction sites," says Derick M. Bulkley, founder of SeriousCollector.com. "With fixed-price sales and our 'Aging-of-Bids' auction methodology, we provide connoisseur collectors a refined experience.  Our community members lead active lives that preclude them from hovering over their computers at 3 a.m. on a Sunday night, hoping to place the last bid before closing."

Bulkley says The Serious Collector's greatest challenge is finding dealers to serve his acquisitive community of sophisticated collectors.  In return, he says, they gain access to a "gated" online community of passionate collectors. “We want to serve the needs of all dealers, even those just starting out with computers or just thinking about getting one," Bulkley says.  "We can help a dealer get on line with a minimum of effort and time.  We know they're more concerned with daily demands for serving customers and building their inventories."

Buyer activity, not artificial time limits, controls auctions on SeriousCollector.com, Bulkley says.  Anytime a buyer bids on an item, he or she is guaranteed the auction will not close for at least 24 hours.

"Think of it as the auctioneer's call, 'going once...going twice...,'" Bulkley says.  "If you're cruising in the Mediterranean and can't be on line at 4 a.m., we will serve your collecting interests.  It's also economically superior to timed auctions for pricing scarce, high value items.  Alternatively, we give dealers the option of fixed-price sales and a communication channel for bargaining."

Bulkley says SeriousCollector.com was designed to make it easy for users to explore all aspects of their collecting interest in just a few steps.

"A member browsing Shaker items at auction is just one click away from a Shaker discussion forum, a list of other members collecting Shaker items or online resources for information about Shaker antiques," Bulkley says.  "Convenience and accessibility have driven our web site design."

Dealer members receive a professionally designed home page to present themselves and showcase their inventories, marketing and advertising support, ample computer space to store images of inventory items and complete technical and automatic transaction tracking.  Bulkley says his membership fees and commission charges are very competitive.
